For more than thirty years, my mother Susan has welcomed women into her boutique in Aspen with a simple belief: the best clothing should make you feel completely like yourself. She has never been interested in chasing every new trend or filling the store simply for the sake of having more. Instead, she has always looked for pieces that feel refined, wearable, and worth returning to season after season.

I grew up around that boutique. After school, during holidays, and on quiet winter afternoons, I watched Susan work with women who often became familiar faces over the years. She had an instinct for knowing what belonged in the store and what did not. She would notice the weight of a fabric, the way a jacket fell over the shoulders, the finish of a knit, or whether a piece would still feel relevant long after the season had changed.

When I was younger, I thought she simply had good taste. Over time, I realized it was something more than that. It was experience. Three decades of dressing women in Aspen taught Susan that the pieces worth owning are rarely the loudest ones. They are the pieces you return to: the sweater that works year after year, the jacket that instantly makes an outfit feel finished, or the trousers that are flattering, comfortable, and easy to wear. The Next Chapter

Today, Susan’s Aspen Boutique is entering a new chapter. I’m Olivia, Susan’s daughter, and I grew up watching my mother build this business one customer at a time, long before I understood how much care went into every decision she made.

I saw women walk into the boutique for the first time and return year after year. Susan remembered which colors they felt best in, how they preferred their knitwear to fit, and which coat they had considered the winter before. For her, good service was never about simply selling something. It was about understanding what suited the woman standing in front of her and helping her find something she would genuinely enjoy wearing.

That personal approach is what I want to preserve. As Susan begins to step back after more than thirty years, I am taking on more of the boutique and bringing it online so women across America can discover the same approach to style that has shaped our store in Aspen for decades. The way we reach our customers may be changing, but the standard behind the boutique is not.

Shaped by Aspen

Aspen has always influenced the way we look at clothing. There is a certain ease to style here: women want to look polished, but never overdone. They need pieces that move naturally between crisp mornings, long lunches, afternoons in town, dinners with friends, and cold evenings when an extra layer becomes essential.

That balance has shaped the boutique for more than thirty years. We look for clothing that feels refined without being fussy, distinctive without being difficult to wear, and comfortable without sacrificing elegance. Soft knits, thoughtful layers, understated jackets, flattering silhouettes, beautiful textures, and pieces that work naturally with what you already own have always formed the foundation of our collections.

Aspen has also taught us that quality is often found in the details. The feel of the fabric, the way a seam sits, theproportion of a collar, the cut of a sleeve, and the balance of a silhouette can make the difference between something you enjoy once and something you reach for again and again. Those details matter to us because they are often what make a piece feel truly considered.

We do not believe a boutique should be filled simply for the sake of having more. Every piece we consider has to earn its place, and Susan’s thirty years of experience continue to guide the way we select our collections today.

We look closely at the fabric, fit, finish, versatility, and the way a piece feels when it is actually worn. More importantly, we consider whether it will work in a real woman’s wardrobe. A piece should feel comfortable enough to wear often, flattering enough to make you feel good, and versatile enough to work with what you already own.

That is why our collections are intentionally considered rather than endlessly crowded. We would rather offer fewer pieces we genuinely believe in than fill the store with things simply because they happen to be popular. For us, good style has never been about chasing more. It has always been about choosing better.

Susan has always believed that a wardrobe should evolve naturally. As new seasonal collections arrive, we make room for what comes next, which is why you may see selected pieces offered at reduced prices throughout the year.

Those pieces are not there because something is wrong with them. They are there because a boutique, much like a wardrobe, needs room to move forward. When we introduce something new, we want to do it thoughtfully, and when a beautiful piece from an earlier collection finds its way into another woman’s wardrobe, we believe that is exactly where it should be.

Still Personal

Taking Susan’s Aspen Boutique online allows us to reach women far beyond Colorado, but we never want the experience to feel anonymous. The boutique was built on personal relationships, thoughtful choices, and the belief that style should make a woman feel more confident in herself, not pressured to become someone else.

That philosophy remains at the heart of everything we do. We choose carefully, value quality over quantity, and try to make style feel straightforward rather than complicated. Most importantly, we never forget that the woman wearing the clothes matters far more than the clothes themselves.

After more than thirty years in Aspen, that is the standard Susan is passing on to me, and it is the standard I intend to keep.
